 Vital Records

State office has had birth and death records since October 1907, and a marriage index for some counties since 1958. For earlier records, write to Health Officer in city or county where event occurred.

Marriage and Divorce Records

Notes: • Certified copies of marriage and divorce records are not available from State Health Department or State Library but must be obtained from county where event occurred. Costs will vary by county. • For marriage records, contact the Clerk of Circuit Court or Clerk of Superior Court in the county where the license was issued. • For divorce records, contact the County Clerk in the county where the divorce was granted.

 State Archives and Libraries

They currently have immigrant records from 1790-1920, federal census records, passenger lists by port of entry, military records, a large collection of family histories, indexes for vital records, naturalization records, an index to early marriage records, a bride and groom index from 1749-1850, an Indiana mortality index from 1850-1880, county and town histories, church records, directories and newspapers, manuscripts, cemetery records, a photo collection, and maps.
