 Vital Records

State office has birth, death, and marriage records since 1880, divorce records since January 1963. For records before 1914 in Albany, Buffalo, and Yonkers, or before 1880 in any other city, write to Registrar of Vital Statistics in city where event occurred. For the rest of the State, except New York City, write to State office.

 State Archives and Libraries

They currently have an index to vital records, military records, Revolutionary War, Spanish-American War, and World War I military records, states census records from 1819-1925, property records, tax records, tax assessment rolls from 1799-1804 except for New York City, civil and criminal court records, and 80,000 maps from the 17th century.
