 Vital Records

State office has birth and death records from January 1853 to December 1896 and since June 14, 1912. Only the cities of Hampton, Newport News and Norfolk have records between 1896 and June 14, 1912. State office also has marriage records since January 1853 and divorce records since January 1918. Marriage and divorce records are also available at the county level (see notes below).

They currently have maps, photographs, manuscripts, newspapers, court records, land records, tax records, and books.
