Within the indexed images of nine volumes, you'll find details of the military careers of all men who served Massachusetts during the Civil War. The materials date from 1861 to 1865 and follow the military careers of Massachusetts servicemen and their commanding officers. Together, the military records in these volumes reference approximately 140,000 individuals.


What are the data sources for this product?
More than 1,000,000 original records (ranging from original enlistment papers and muster rolls to hospital records and town reports) were abstracted to create the nine-volume work, Massachusetts Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines in the Civil War. The series was compiled by the Massachusetts Adjutant General and published in 1931.
