Information varies among the records, however, most give the individual's name and state of service as well as other identifying details. The original record may provide you with additional information about this individual, such as his birthplace and the age at which he entered the service. You may even find the necessary details to be able to get a copy of the original service record from the National Archives.

This data set contains electronically-reproduced images of a card index that originally spanned nine rolls of National Archives microfilm. This card index is the index to the compiled service records of 21,000 volunteer soldiers who served from twenty-two states and territories of the United States between 1784 and 1811. For your searching convenience, an electronic name index is provided that spans the information from all nine rolls of microfilm.

- Soldier's name
- Rank, company, regiment, and battalion to which the soldier belonged
- State or territory of service
