with this data:
Pinpoint a family's location at a particular time. When you know where a
family lived, you know where to look for other important records, such as
county records of births, marriages, and deaths. Also, with the information
from the census index, you can find a copy of the original census record.
Depending on the census year, you may learn more important family information,
such as the names, ages, and birthplaces of the other individuals in the
household.

Please note that the state names listed here refer to current U.S. state
lines, rather than the territory demarcations that may have existed when
the record was taken. By presenting the data in this way, we intended
to remove a major obstacle for modern researchers who may not necessarily
know where territory boundaries were drawn during each particular era
of American history. For example, you may know that your ancestors originated
in present-day Alabama, but you may not know that, in 1790, Alabama was
part of the Spanish province of West Florida.
If you find your ancestor's name, our U.S. Census Subscription can provide you with a copy of the census
schedule page containing their record. Looking at the original census schedule
will further help you determine if you have found information about your
ancestor or just someone with the same name. If you discover that the individual
is your ancestor, then you can add information from the census schedule
to your family tree.
Also, not every county in every state is included in this data set. For
a complete breakdown of the counties covered followed by the number of
individuals recorded click here.
