  1. As a child, did he have any interest in seeing other places, be it other towns, regions, or countries? If yes, what triggered this interest?

  2. Where did he go in his travels, including parts of his own country? Did he help choose where he went?

  3. Did he help plan and prepare for the trip? Did he travel by car, train, boat, or some other means of transportation? Did anything unusual happen while he was in transit?

  4. Did he ever travel alone as a child? Did he have any interesting experiences or mishaps as a child traveling alone?

  5. How long did it take to get to his destination? How did he feel when he arrived? How was the food? How were his accommodations? Did he miss the comforts of home?

  6. Did he travel to a place where a foreign language was spoken? Did he have a funny or troubling experience of miscommunication? Did he learn any of the language?

  7. What was different or remarkable about the culture or the lifestyle of the place he visited?

  8. What did he buy or want to buy when he was traveling? Did he have a favorite souvenir?

  9. How would he describe the places of interest that he visited? What were the physical qualities of the place he visited? How was the climate?

  10. What did he learn about the place he visited? Did he participate in any festivals or special activities? Did he get to do everything he wanted to?

  11. Did he have any bad experiences while traveling, such as a theft, injury, illness, or homesickness? Did he get lost? How did he handle any bad experiences he might have had?

  12. Did he keep a travel diary or scrapbook? If so, what experiences was he able to record? Did he go back to the diary to relive his experiences later?

  13. Did he feel that his traveling experiences changed him in any way? How did he feel about going home?
