Family Traditions

Below is a list of Writing Ideas to help you with your biography. See our instructions if you need help printing these Writing Ideas or finding Writing Ideas related to other Topics.

  1. What traditions did he and his family have? Did they eat special foods on special days? Did they make a point of spending time together on certain days?

  2. At this point, was he raising his own family? If so, had he started his own family traditions? Did he return to his family's home to carry out certain traditions?

  3. As he grew older, were there family customs that he found he disliked? If yes, what were they and did he go along with them anyway? Did he find that he was drifting away from his family and striking out on his own?

  4. As a young adult, was there a special holiday on which he and his family carried out family traditions? Religious or state holidays, for example? What did he do on these days?

  5. How were birthdays or anniversaries special in his family? What did they do differently from what other families do? Did he organize parties for his parents' anniversaries or birthdays?

  6. As a young adult, had he moved away from his family? If yes, did he miss the everyday family routines from the past, such as eating together or playing games in the evenings? Did these later become customs in his own family?

  7. Did he and his family get together regularly to take family portraits? Did he like to do this or did he dread it?

  8. Did he have family reunions when he was a young adult? How often? How had these changed from when he was younger? Whom did he look forward to seeing?

  9. Of the customs that he shared with his family while growing up, which ones did he introduce to his own family?

  10. Many years later, what family tradition from this time was most memorable to him and why? Did it bring back memories of loved ones or the way life was in "yesteryear"?
