Search for My Family

The Internet is an excellent resource for family history researchers. Unfortunately, looking for information on the Internet can be both time-consuming and confusing. Below we describe some tools that will help you find the information you want. You might want to give them each a try and then come back and finish up our tour.

Helpful Web Sites

Helpful Web Sites is a comprehensive directory of family history sites on the Internet. For example, you might want to locate information about your nationality. Or, to meet other family history enthusiasts you might want to find a local genealogy group for your area.

Professional genealogists constantly update this directory to help you find valuable, current Web sites. Browse the whole collection of links to find more helpful sites. You can even search the links using keywords you're interested in.

Family Finder

As we mentioned earlier, many people create family history home pages on the Internet. So, in addition to finding general information about nationalities and genealogy groups, you also may be able to find specific information about your ancestors.

There's a really easy way to find just what you need. It's called the Family Finder, and it was created just for this purpose — to search the entire Internet, and find just the names you need. Give it a try to see how popular your family name is.

Social Security Death Index

The Social Security Death Index is one of the largest and most useful databases available. It contains names, birth dates, death dates, Social Security numbers, and other useful information about more than 55 million people.
