| While widely
accepted as fact, there is little hard evidence to support the idea
that Elizabeth (Griscom) Claypoole created the first American flag.
The story was first put
forth by her grandson who claimed that she told him of her involvement
with flag while on her deathbed. In all, she would have three husbands
and seven daughters. Many people have searched for the ancestry
of Betsy Ross, not realizing that Ross was her married name. |
