He married Gertrude Thornhill in Amherst Co., Virginia, 24 Jan 1912. Gertrude was born in Virginia Jul 1886. Gertrude was the daughter of William Thornhill and Zabria Linthicum.

Samuel Russell Cosby and Gertrude Thornhill had the following children:

13 ii. Clara Cosby.

14 iii. Samuel Russell Cosby.

15 iv. Thornhill Olie Cosby.

16 v. Bernice Cosby was born 1925. Bernice died 1925 at less than one year of age.
