| She dazzled
moviegoers with her beauty and comic genius. Born Jane Alice Peters,
she made her screen debut at age 12. By 16, she had signed a film
contract, dropped out of school, and changed her name to Carole
Lombard. She appeared in everything from serious dramas to Westerns
and still had time for a series of love affairs. Her second husband,
Clark Gable, wasn't particularly supportive when Carole offered
President Roosevelt their services in supporting World War II efforts.
Sadly, at only 33 Carole was killed in a plane crash on her way
home from her first bond rally. |
