Ancestry
of Dionne Warwick
 |
| Born into
a gospel singing family, Dionne Warwick emerged as a solo recording
artist in 1961 when aspiring songwriter Burt Bacharach heard her
singing on a background session and started writing songs for her
with his partner, Hal David. The team released one hit single after
another, and Dionne became an international star. Her hits include
"I Say a Little Prayer," "Do You Know the Way to
San Jose," and "That's What Friends Are For." More
recently, Dionne has focused her attention elsewhere and she has
become an advocate for AIDS education, worked with the Psychic Friends
Network, and spoken out against the lyrics of gangster rap music. |
