of Ernest Hemingway
 |
| The eldest
son of Dr. Clarence Hemingway and his wife, Grace, Ernest Hemingway
grew up in Oak Park, Illinois. After graduating from high school,
Hemingway took a job as a newspaper reporter before entering World
War I as an ambulance driver for the Red Cross. While staying in
an Italian hospital, Hemingway had a relationship with a nurse that
would serve as the basis for one of his most popular novels, A
Farewell to Arms. Hemingway returned to Chicago before marrying
and moving to Paris to write and work as a foreign correspondent.
Ernest Hemingway would go on to marry three more times and worked
much of his life as a journalist around the world. In 1953, he won
the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction for The Old Man and the Sea
and in 1954 he was awarded the Nobel Prize. |
