He married Nellie Dicken. Nellie was born in Sawley, Derbyshire, England 15 Dec 1911. Nellie was the daughter of Henry Dicken and Ada B. White. Nellie died 9 Nov 1991 in Elyria, Lorain, Ohio, at 79 years of age.

Earl Ellsworth Hawkins and Nellie Dicken had the following children:

6 i. Earl E.² Hawkins was born in Ohio 12 Jul 1931. Earl died 5 May 1987 in Elyria, Lorain, Ohio, at 55 years of age.⁽⁸⁾ He married Darlene Miller.
