of James Beard
 |
| Born in Portland, Oregon in 1903, James Beard didn't set out to become the "Father of American Gastronomy." He started a catering business simply as a way to supplement the income he earned as an actor. In doing so, he took the first step towards revolutionizing American cuisine by promoting good, simple cooking. Beard hosted the first televised food show in 1946, produced more than two dozen cookbooks, and established an esteemed cooking school. Upon his death in 1985, he left a legacy of cooks to carry on his love of American cuisine. |
