He married Mary E. Brown 3 Sep 1863.⁽²⁸⁾ Mary was born in Indiana Jul 1842.⁽²⁹⁾ Mary died 10 Sep 1909 in Brown, Marion, Indiana, at 67 years of age.⁽³⁰⁾

Mathias E. Dillinger and Mary E. Brown had the following children:

+ 2 i. John Wilson² Dillinger was born 2 Jul 1864.

9 ii. Virginia Magnora Dillinger was born in Indiana 21 Mar 1866.⁽³¹⁾ Virginia died 9 May 1929 at 63 years of age.⁽³²⁾ She married twice. She married Lyle Ingram. She married Ed Miller.

10 iii. James Harry Dillinger was born in Indiana 18 Jul 1868.⁽³³⁾ James died 6 Jul 1934 in Brazil, Indiana, at 65 years of age.⁽³⁴⁾ His body was interred in Indiana, Anderson Cemetery.⁽³⁵⁾ He married Mary Hewes.

11 iv. Julie M. Dillinger was born 17 Oct 1870.⁽³⁶⁾ Julie died 13 Aug 1871 at less than one year of age.⁽³⁷⁾

12 v. Batie I. Dillinger was born 13 Jun 1872.⁽³⁸⁾ Batie died 23 Sep 1872 at less than one year of age.⁽³⁹⁾

13 vi. Early Virgil Dillinger was born in Indiana 16 Mar 1873.⁽⁴⁰⁾ The 1880 census indicates he was born in 1873, the cards found in the Mooresville Public Library's Death Records of Morgan County indicate he was born in 1874. Early died 4 Jun 1937 at 64 years of age.⁽⁴¹⁾

14 vii. Everett Benton Dillinger was born in Indiana 29 Oct 1876.⁽⁴²⁾ Everett died 21 Jan 1955 at 78 years of age.⁽⁴³⁾ He married Mildred N. Richardson.

15 viii. Willard A. Dillinger was born 25 May 1878.⁽⁴⁴⁾ It should be noted that Willard does not show up in the 1880 census living in the household of Mathias Dillinger, so it is possible that his year of birth according to the Mooresville Public Library's Death Records of Morgan County is incorrect. Willard died 2 Sep 1887 at 9 years of age.⁽⁴⁵⁾
