Kennedy was the second of nine children born to Joseph and Rose
Kennedy. After graduating from Harvard, Kennedy served in World
War II and worked for a brief time as a reporter before becoming
a Democratic Congressman from Boston in 1947. Over the next ten
years he would become a Senator, marry, have three children (the
third, Patrick, died shortly after birth), and write a Pulitzer
Prize winning book called Profiles in Courage. In 1960, Kennedy
beat Richard Nixon
to become the youngest president ever elected. During his three
years in office, Kennedy promoted social legislation along with
Civil Rights reform, formed the Peace Corps, and oversaw resolution
of the Cuban Missile Crisis. |
