He married Alexandra Fedorovna von Hessen in St. Petersburg,
Russia, 26 Nov 1894. Alexandra was born in Darmstadt 6 Jun 1872. Alexandra was
the daughter of Louis IV von Hessen-Darmstadt and Alice Maud Mary Wettin. Alexandra
died 18 Jul 1918 in Ekaterinburg, Russia, at 46 years of age. She was the granddaughter
of Queen Victoria and it
is through this connection that son Alexis would have hemophilia.
Nicholas II Romanov and Alexandra Fedorovna von Hessen had the following children:

Anastasia Nicholovna Romanov was born in Peterhof, Russia 18 Jun 1901. Anastasia died 18 Jul 1918 in
Ekaterinburg, Russia, at 17 years of age. There has been a lot of controversy surrounding Anastasia and many movies and books about
the possibility that she survived the massacre of her family and went on to later be denied as the Grand Duchess Anastasia to her death in
the late 1900s under the name of Anna Anderson. Much has been written about this, however DNA studies done in 1998 proved that the woman
who died as Anna Anderson was not the Grand Duchess Anastasia but instead a Polish factory worker.

Alexis Nicolaievich Romanov was born in Peterhof, Russia 12 Aug 1904. There has been much speculation that the
downfall of the Romanov dynasty was the result of the fact that Alexis was born with hemophilia, which he inherited through his mother, a
descendant of Queen Victoria of England. There is some talk that if he hadn't been sick, his mother, the Tsarina Alix, would not have been
so easily come under the spell of Rasputin and the couple may have been more aware of the problems of their countrymen. Alexis died 18
Jul 1918 in Ekaterinburg, Russia, at 13 years of age. Like his sister Anastasia, there have been recent books about those who claim
to be the Tsarevich and how he survived the massacre in Ekaterinburg in July, 1918.
