Actor and
director Paul Newman was born January 26, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio.
He was the youngest child of Theresa and Arthur Newman, the owner
of a successful sporting goods store. Paul's mother was born in
Hungary and his roots on his father's side can be traced to Poland.
Paul acted as a teenager and in college but put his career on
hold to manage the sporting goods store after his father died.
He eventually sold his share of the business to his brother and
enrolled in the Yale School of Drama. Highlights of his 50+ year
career include the 1969 film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance
Kid (with Robert
Redford), the highest grossing Western in cinema history.
