| Robert Redford
was born in Santa Monica, California in 1937 to a milkman turned
accountant and his wife. Redford's original aspiration was to become
a painter and he studied painting in Europe and New York before
becoming an actor. He has appeared in nearly 40 films since making
his 1962 debut in War Hunt. A successful actor, Redford's
first Academy Award was as Best Director for Ordinary People
in 1980. He is also well-known for founding the Sundance Institute
and the Sundance Film Festival, the premiere showcase for independent
films in America. |
