12. Madison3 Hemings (Thomas2 Jefferson, Peter1)(38) was born in Monticello, Albemarle, Virginia 19 Jan 1805. Madison died 28 Nov 1877 in Ross County, Ohio, at 72 years of age.

He married Mary McCoy in Virginia, 21 Nov 1831. Mary was born in Virginia ca 1810.(39)

Madison was freed upon the death of his master 1826. He was manumitted by Jefferson's will.

Madison Hemings and Mary McCoy had the following children:

child 14 i. son4 Hemings(40). Son died young in Albemarle Co., Virginia.

child 15 ii. Sarah Hemings was born in Virginia 9 Nov 1835.(41) Sarah died 11 Nov 1884 at 49 years of age.(42) She married Reuben Byrd 1858.(43) Reuben was born ca 1826. Reuben died 17 Apr 1863 in Pike County, Ohio, at 36 years of age.(44) (See Reuben Byrd for the continuation of this line.)

child 16 iii. Thomas Eston Hemings was born 1838. Thomas died in a Confederate prison.

child 17 iv. Harriet Hemings was born ca 1839. She married James Butler. (See James Butler for the continuation of this line.)

child 20 vii. William Beverly Hemings was born 1847. William died 1910 in Leavenworth, Kansas, at 63 years of age.(50)

child 21 viii. James Madison Hemings was born 1849.(51)
