He married Catherine Jane Hemings. Catherine was born 1844.⁽¹⁷⁾ Catherine was the daughter of Madison Hemings and Mary McCoy. Catherine died 1880 at 36 years of age.⁽¹⁸⁾

George Washington Hale and Catherine Jane Hemings had the following children:

2 i. George² Hale was born 1868. George died 1870 at 2 years of age.

3 ii. James Hale was born 1869.

4 iii. Alice Hale was born 1870. Alice died 1881 at 11 years of age.

5 iv. John H. Hale was born 1873.

6 v. Mary E. Hale was born 1875.

7 vi. Almira Hale was born 1876.

8 vii. Jesse Hale was born 1878.

9 viii. Lydia Hale.
