2. William² Hanks (Thomas¹) was born ca 1650. William died bef 7 Feb 1704 in Richmond Co., Virginia, at approximately 53 years of age.⁽²⁾

He married Sarah bef 1679. Their oldest son, William, was born in 1679. According to Adin Baber in The Hanks Family of Virginia and Westward, William resided on Moraticon Creek. There has been no trace of his purchase of this record leading researchers to believe that he was the oldest son of Thomas and received the land by the law of primogeniture (the law that gave the land to the oldest son at the time of the farther's death) which was being practiced at this time.

William Hanks and Sarah had the following children:

+ 6 i. William³ Hanks was born 14 Feb 1679.

7 ii. Luke Hanks.

+ 8 iii. John Hanks was born aft 1687.
