Wayne Newton
 |
| "Mr. Las Vegas," a.k.a. Wayne Newton, was born April 3, 1942
in Roanoke, Virginia. Of Powahatan Indian and Cherokee decent,
Newton toured with the Grand Ole Opry before catching his big
break as a guest performer on "Jackie Gleason's American Scene
Program." Thanks to numerous other variety show appearances,
Newton won the admiration of singer-songwriter Bobby Darin. It
was Darin who, in 1963, produced Newton's smash record "Danke
Schoen." With a few more hits under his belt, including "Red
Roses for a Blue Lady" and "Summer Wind," he moved to Las Vegas
where he headlined his first sell-out show. Since then, he has
performed more than 25,000 live shows in Las Vegas while also
performing for the US military and appearing in films and
television programs. He just recently married attorney Kathleen
McCrone with whom he has one daughter - Lauren Ashley (born
2002). His older daughter Erin was born during his first marriage
to Elaine Okamura, a flight attendant he met while performing
in Vietnam. |
