I read more posts and found the DNA forum that was mentioned so ignore my previous message.
I have a genealogy problem that no one can probably help but I'll give it a try anyway. Where is John Henry Anderson before 1880? On the 1880 Lauderdale Co., Ala. census John Anderson is in the household of Spinks Wallace. John is indexed as "B" but if you enlarge the page it is clearly "I". A few houses away was a girl age 14, Margaret Ross (her name was Garrett not Ross). John and Margaret got married Sept. of that same year. After that John was on the 1900 Lawrence Co., Tn. census as white. Margaret was always called white. John died in 1904. Their son William Walter Anderson b. 1901 Al. put on his S.S. App. in 1937 that he was Indian. He is only on one census, the 1910, age 8. His sister Lula (Pendergrass) was married and is on the 1910 census as "In". The other siblings are on census records as white. Lula and one brother were born in Indian Terr. but they also lived in Alabama and Tenn. When Walter grew up he was a wanderer and lived everywhere from Oklahoma, to Mich. to Texas, Calif. Ark....
I am not interested in pursuing a roll # or any such. Just want to know who John Henry Anderson's people were. Walter always said he was Cherokee but who knows.
Is that to much information for just one little question that probably no one can even help answer?? I've worked on this for over 35 years. One other thing, in desperation some of my relatives are putting the John R H Anderson b. 1846 in Lawrence Co., Tn. as our John Henry Anderson. That John Anderson's brother William lived to enjoy his golden years. I have been in touch with two of the descendants of those Anderson's and they and I agree we are not related. I only wish.
