I was wondering typically how long would one stay in a 18th cen. military hospital, before returning to duty?
My uncle, Johannes Michael Reigel, was a soldier in the PA German Regt. Enlisting in 1776, he served till Sept 1779, was wounded at Germantown, in October 1777.
I know Johannes Michael returned to active duty because, he was discharged a half hour away from his home. (muster out took place in Northumberland, but he lived in Union County. (So, he wasn't at home, in 1779)-This leads more to wonder if his wound was not all that bad, maybe healed a little? (He was hit in the calf of the leg)
I would like to determine if he was at Valley Forge. Obviously he was not there during the winter, because he was recovering, but what about in the spring/summer of 1778? -I checked the Valley Forge muster list, he is not on it.
-How long would the average American serve in the Revolution? I have another uncle who enlisted around May 1777, but I am unable to find his discharge date. His name was Ludwig Shott(S)-13th PA, Capt. Grey, Col. Bull. Could I perhaps make an educated guess on this question? -He too is not in the Valley Forge database. Again, I'm trying to place him at Valley Forge...
