This is a money maker for DAR. If a line has been 'flagged' (it is not longer acceptable)that is noted. BUT many early papers have not been flagged because no one has tried to use them in 50 years. Also early papers really had no proof.
If you do not solidly check out the proof, it is just a possibility, like most of the Ancestry trees. Many of the Ancestry trees are impossible but no one seems to notice.
We all choose how to do genealogical research. I am a DAR and volunteered to verify papers for a decade, quite a while ago. I started 'closing' about 1/4 of the lines I was supposed to be verifying. I stopped 'helping.' The damaging proof was actually at DAR.
DAR has tried to clean up their papers but remember they want members. Now they are selling everything online. Beware.
