My 5th great grandfather was John Nicholas Boyer. He lived in Bethlehem, PA. Although I can't say for sure, he mght have served in the militia, during the American Revolution.
I believe that he was in the 4th PA Northampton Co. militia. He was placed in the 4th company in the 1st class. Jesses Jones was the captain. When looking at Jesse Jones' service record, it states-active duty-August 8-October 7, 1782.
Since my grandfather was in the 1st class, under Jones', wouldn't he have been called up on active duty as well? (he would be called up with the other 1st class men?) John Boyer's card states-inactive duty-return of June 1782.
What is the probability that my grandfather was on active duty, in 1782? Is there a way to locate his service record, that may indicate his active or inactive status? I myself have found little data on Jesse Jones' company muster rolls. I have only found John Boyer's name once, and that was just his name. There was no indication of dates or such.
