There appears to be at least two Colonel John Butlers in the Amercian Revoluion.I can find a lot about the Tory who organized a Ranger unit for the British, but not the Colonel Butler that fought for the Colonials.I would very much like the location of any verification information as I cannot seem to access the Military Archives of hartford, CN.
The referance that I have for him is from a Sons of the American Revolution application, and he is but a note added to the record of his son-in-Law:
"Reportedly a Colonel in the Revolution on his son-in-law's descendant's application for SAR membership (Natl # s-9406, Vermont State #607dated March 22, 1947).
Also on the Application for SAR membership for Warren Robinson Austin dated march 22, 1947, State Number 622 and national Number S-3421
The Applications contain a note "Col. John Butler father of Pheobe, wife of Stephen (Robinson) was an officer in Expedition to Canada. His record in Military Archives of Hartford, Conn."
