Dear Beth, Here is the reply I wrote to Barbara about the email addresses of two Dominican convents in the Reading area of MA.
The web page for getting messages to the Dominican Sisters of the Presentation in Dighton, MA is http://www.dominicansistersofthepresentation.org/website_links_form.htmhttp://www.dominicansistersofthepresentation.org/website_links_form.htm Click on this address. It is a form. You put in your name and phone and address in the appropriate boxes, and then there is a larger box for your message. At the bottom you can check if your message is about their website or if you want to speak to a sister. Check that you want to speak to a sister. I can't find an postal address or an email address. Sr. Faye Medina, OP, is the contact person. Just say you are looking for the Sr. Francis Grace who served in Reading, MA and taught first grade at St. Agnes school. Then say what you want.
The email address for the Dominican Sisters of Hope (3 MA and NY congregations who merged) is firstname.lastname@example.org Say the same thing to them.
These are the two most likely Dominican congregations to have served in Reading, but there is really no way to tell if they are the right ones. There were hundreds of Dominican congregations in the 1950s. It's a good idea to contact these two, though. They are the closest to Reading.
The religious orders all have archives, so they will be able to look up Sr. Frances Grace if she was in their order.
Another good place to look is in the archives of the Boston Archdiocese. You will have to write to the archivist by letter or email or phone him/her.The archdioceses keep reports and other material on all their parishes and parish schools.I would try the motherhouses first, though.I contacted a Benedictine motherhouse to locate one of their sisters, and they were courteous and helpful.
