Dear Donna,
Sometimes cities and counties kept death and burial records even though not required by the state. The Clerk Recorder of Santa Clara County has them.http://www.sccgov.org/portal/site/rec/agencyarticle?path=%2Fv7%2FCounty%20Clerk-Recorder%20%28DEP%29%2FRecords%20Search&contentId=0032bb3166b34010VgnVCMP2200049dc4a92____http://www.sccgov.org/portal/site/rec/agencyarticle?path=%2Fv7%2FCounty%20Clerk-Recorder%20%28DEP%29%2FRecords%20Search&contentId=0032bb3166b34010VgnVCMP2200049dc4a92____

The public library or the local historical society are good resources for obituaries, which have a lot of information about the family and the life of the person who died.Public libraries often do not charge for searching if you live in their area. The historical societies usually charge something.Mine charges $10.I did my library requests and historical society requests by phone.
Sincerely,
