I've written to NARA regarding an application for the US Navy Civil War Campaign Medal - I've had no reply since the initial response back in April so I'm still waiting to hear from them.
Meanwhile research in the meantime seems to show that I need to purchase one from an official supplier - OK I've seen them on ebay - I've no idea what's official or what the different issue numbers are.
My query is this.
I have my ancestor's full service record, death record (in active service) and pension application and was wondering if I purchase one would there be some sort of 'official' documentation/recognition attached with the medal or if I need to supply this - looks to me like the answer is no.
If not then it would seem to be a pretty 'hollow' purchase?
