James W. Ferrill* enlisted May 20, 1861 at Nashville, Tenn. for 1 yr of service. He was in Company "B" 7th Tenn Inf. At Yorktown, Va he later (4/26/1862) extended his service for 3 years. On muster roll ending August 31, 1862 it notes he is absent sick at Staunton, Va, since August 9, 1862, having been wounded at Battle of Cedar Run.(Cedar Mountain) see http://www.nps.gov/frsp/cedar.htmhttp://www.nps.gov/frsp/cedar.htm On Nov/Dec 1862 muster roll is listed as absent on furlough in Tenn. On Jan/Feb 1863 roll it notes that his furlough expired but he is not yet able for duty.
On Mar/Apr 1863 roll it notes he is listed as AWOL since September 25, 1862. His name next appears on an Oath of Allegience to the United States dated April 4, 1864. Signed at Nashville, Tennessee. It notes his residence as Putnam County, Tenn, that he had blue eyes, a dark complexion, dark hair, was 6 ft tall. No further record this source.
There was also an Andrew S. Ferrell (age 37) in Company "B" 7th Tenn Inf.He was discharged for disability (seniority) on August 19, 1862.
