ROBIN COFFMAN 12/22/11
A J. S. Coffman served in a company that was known by several different designations until it eventually became Company H, 50th Alabama Infantry.Early designations included Company D, Davis's Battalion Ala Volunteers also known as 1st,2nd,5th,and 8th Battalion Ala Volunteers.Pretty sure this is your guy. There are only four cards in his record. He enlisted in Florence on Sept 27, 1861, and was mustered into service at Camp Jordan near Huntsville on Oct. 4, 1861.By the end of October when the first bi-monthly muster roll was made, he was listed as absent with leave - taken sick. The next bi-monthly roll for Nov-Dec showed him absent without leave, however a roll specifically dated Nov. 25, 1861 showed him absent with leave at home in Lauderdale Co.There are no other records. There is brief history of the unit here:
