Dionicio Parras enlisted in Company H, 1st New Mexico Cavalry at Las Cruces, NM, June 1, 1863.There are 33 cards in his service file, most showing his presence with the unit during his 3 year enlistment, occasionally on detached service and once sick.His enlistment papers state that he was born in Chihuahua in the State of Chihuahua and that he is 20 years old at enlistment.A descriptive roll states he was 5' 7 1/2" tall, dark eyes, black hair, dark complexion, and by occupation a laborer.Upon his discharge in June of 1866, he took part of his pay in equipment: "Accoutrements retained by soldier, one Rifle Cal. 54 & accoutrements, one Colts Army Pistol & accoutrements $14.00. Due U.S. for One Bed Sack (single) $3.50. Mustered out by reason of expiration of term of service."He was discharged from service at Ft. Selden, NM June 2, 1866.
