Without knowing the specifics of the record that you are looking at, I can only offer some general thoughts. Usually enlistment took place in or near one's residence. Once a company was filled out, it might then march to another location to be mustered into service and combined with other companies to form, usually, a regiment. Sometimes these were mustered into state service instead of directly into Confederate service. Upon acceptance into Confederate service the members of a former state organization might be required to enlist a second time. So you might have an original enlistment date and place, a second date and place for mustering into state service and a third date and place for enlistment into the Confederate army. If you will provide the name and unit information of the individual, I will be happy to look it over and offer a specific opinion.
