Edward Garvey was a well known member of the Otago Mounted Constabulary during the gold rush to Central Otago, South Island New Zealand in the early 1860's. He died tragically in a snowstorm in the execution of his duty on Sept 25, 1863. Several of the obituaries in Otago newspapers noted him as a survivor of the Charge of the Light Brigade. Others simply listed him as a veteran of the Crimean war. If anyone knows any details about his service in the crimea, I would be grateful. I can supply details about his life in New Zealand in return for this!
