I am quite a fan of 23andme and think they are innovative and offer a great service. Their latest offer of a test for 99USD is very attractive. But for those living in Europe you must add to this 79.95USD shipping costs. People living in the US pay only 9.95USD.
This does look like discrimination against people outside the US. Given that many Americans have European ancestry, you might expect them to encourage participation from Europe. But sadly not.
I should say that 23andme are rather coy about this charge. It is not in their FAQs. I emailed them and was told that the only way to discover this charge is to start to place an order.
Despite this moan, I do hope this offer does lead to a lot more participation.
