Thank you for your answer Russ.I always appreciate your expertise.I am a little confused but will try to break down what I'm doing so you can find my problem.Following are the steps I've been using in choosing an existing "source" or adding one.
1)I go to the Person Tab of the person I am working on. On the right hand side of the screen I go down to the "Source" field and click on it.I click on "New".If an an existing source is found, it immediately populates this field with the choices I have to choose from after I've typed the first few letters of the source I'm wanting.I choose which one I want or I add a new source title.
2)I skip the fields repository, citation detail, etc. because I DON'T want to use them.
3)I tab directly to the CITATION TEXT and type my data such as what appears on a death certificate. The source title is Death Certificate. My Citation's are the details I want to us.
4)I click "O.K.".
My Source Title and Citation if I were to click on it gives me just what I typed in.This procedure works well for me. =========================================================
Now you mention (3) different Green headers on the Person Screen.I can see all three. As I've stated above, I do use the Person Tab to add, edit or delete a source.
It's just that at times after you leave the person page and you realize you may have a typing error, etc. and you want to correct it - you go back to the Person Page and the Source & Citation does not appear. This DOES NOT ALWAYS HAPPEN!
Now I'm getting a little confused by your answers. If the steps I've outlined are incorrect, please give me the steps I would take to "add" a source & citation or to use an existing source.
I do know the difference between the two.I've used a version of FTM for 12 years.I'm currently using FTM2012.
This "LINKING" process is confusing to me.Using the procedure you have in your answer, I can do the following:
1)Click on "Sources" at the top of the family screen. 2)I see the different panes. Each of my source titles carry a different citation as you know. It's very seldom a citation would carry to another person unless I'm copying it in a family group.
Is this the screens you are telling me I need to add or choose an existing source to type in?
This is very confusing when the easiest method would be to add or edit from the Person tab.
Thanks for your help.I hope I've been clear in my response.
