Can Vista version read (old, Win98?) data files?

we have an OLD CD set "Generations Deluxe Edition Family Tree Software . . Sierra Software" and four families' data on a disk drive. The CDs have no version numbers, date or the like.
The setup program does not run on Vista, it immediately gets stopped because of an "... invalid device driver format ..." error message.
The data and the work to get it together are sort of "invaluable".
The old Win98 computer died but the disk is still readable.
Can somebody please help with ANY suggestions on what new software might be able to read the old program's data?
Are there any conversion packages around that we may have missed when we tried to google this?
Thank you in advance
