I do not know if you remember me, but we used to correspond many years ago about certain aspects of Generations.
I have recently purchased a new computer (Pentium 4 CPU 3.Ghz; 512 MB RAM) running on Windows XP.This being so, I decided to purchase the latest edition of Generation, version 8.5a (6 June 02), which I was informed would perform better with ‘XP’.
I am now finding little niggling problems with the latest version of Generations. When you close the programme after using the ‘Find’ facility box to find say William DAVIES and then reopen the programme at a later date, the ‘find box’ still shows William DAVIES but the find key is greyed out.If you re-enter William and leave the word DAVIES, the system searches for ‘William’ with any surname.Similarly, if you have an existing female – say, Annie BUFTON; under the old version, if you clicked on her father’s box, the surname BUFTON would already be in place waiting for you to enter his forenames and other details.Under the new version, you have to enter both names and even then it is a bit hit and miss whether one or both are accepted.
Have others identified any of these anomalies and if so, has a fix been issued?
On the subject of updates and patches, where can I find these for download?I do not appear to be able to find them on the Generations website.
