I ended up finding the patch on my own but thank you very much for the link.
Problems!! But did I encounter problems. I had the disappearing data syndrome. So I found what I thought to be the culpirt - the APS pointer thingee - and I deleted it.
Same problem continued and I then deleted my MediaFace software.
Same problem continued and I was at a loss until I figured out I was using the Nvidia drivers. I did the msconfig and took off the NWIZ.exe during startup.
I thought that that would finally take care of it since I couldn't find a nview.dll file.
But the problem persisted. After much searching I found the dll file attached to a rundll32.exe. I turned that file off at startup and lo and behold everything seems to be working fine now.
Thanks to this list and Mike Hobart's great site. I would have probably given up in frustration if I did not have these two resources.
I will Just keep my fingers crossed that I haven't done any permanent damage to my laptop!
