Thanks, guys, for trying to assist me.I'm still mostly confused. Although I did learn a couple of tech things I didn't know. However, I am slowly resigning myself to giving up on 4.2. I also have 8.5.Now when I try to backup 4.2 and restore the disc, it wants to open a family file in 8.5, but even then the disc does not restore any information (only a blank file).I am wondering now if XP will not allow a backup from 4.2. and I am not actually copying the file. Actually all instructions for 4.2 cite Windows 3.1 and 95 (into which I originally installed the program).Perhaps I'm pushing it too far with XP. The one bright spot is that I do maintain updates on 8.5, and it seems to be working OK.However, I do resent the FTM people buying out Generations in an effort to destroy it, and Sierra (particularly) for surrendering it. I still believe Generations is a better program.
