Help, Our Great grand pa Charles Rayfield came to the US thru the Port of New Orleans on 25 Nov 1857 at the age of 16, his name was not listed on the passenger's list, he first came to Dubosis County,Indiana. We have no idea on what name he used upon arrival in the USA. We believe he changed his name from ???????? to Rayfield while here and in 1861 he entered the Civil War as Charles Rayfield and served until the end of the war in July 1865. According to the law back then, a 16 year old didn't have to fill out form to become a citizen at this time,, but his parents, relatives or friends that came over with him would have sign document of intent to become a citizen. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
