Yep, I am beginning to wonder if he was an orphan. No record of parents, siblings, etc. He came to America alone. All relatives in Louisiana (where they were married & lived out their adult life) tie back to his wife rather than him. Also, everything I have found, only list one first name. Although he was married in Catholic church, no middle or Christian name ever listed in church records.Even civil or land records indicate only Antoine Andermann with his signature. On the other hand, his wife has three or four (first, baptismal, confirmation, middle, maiden, etc.) Back in Europe, I am thinking that perhaps he was born in Switzerland then either his family moved to France or he was placed in an orphanage in France (which is where Alsace resides today next to Franche-Comte where his wife's family originated). Continuing that thought, he might have been raised by nuns or priests? Later, when living in Louisiana, he built the first chapel on the river road in St James parish & he along with his wife and their children lived on church property next to priests.
