I corresponded with several individuals in August regarding my Family Tree Maker Version 10 which I used in my Windows XP computer. My computer died and before it did, I saved my data to a portable hard drive. At that time (August) I was going to install my discs for Version 10 in the new computer and then bring my data into that version.
I was given some advice at that time but I have since decided (since getting the new computer -- HP Windows 7, 64 bit) that I was going to order and install Family Tree Maker 2012 and then bring my data from the PORTABLE HARD DRIVE into the 2012 version on my new computer.
I ordered and received 2012 version and have installed it.I have also received a link which told me how to import an existing file in Family Tree Maker 2009-2012.
While installing the program I found a blog where people were complaining about this version 2012 -- there were lots of messages and they were basically all negative -- some people wanted their money back and some said they got no help, etc. etc.
Before I import my data from the portable hard drive, can someone tell me what to expect (any thing I should be looking out for). Also, should I copy the file to my desktop or just import it from the portable hard drive. any suggestions you can give me would be appreciated
