Who remembers coming home from school and watching the old soaps with our mothers?Long ago and not forgotten ones like Love of Life, Search For Tomorrow, Edge of Night and recently ones that just left the air waves As The World Turns and Guiding Light, as well as many others!
I can remember watching them as far back as the late 1960s.Boy have soaps changed since then. But you know, I think I kinda liked them best in the 70s and 80s myself. That was when they seem to at their peak so to speak.
What daytime serials do you remember?Which ones did you like to watch? How about we do this; how many soap operas past and present can you name? That will be fun to see what everyone can think of and remember. Also what soap characters do you remember?Who were your favorites?
Three of my favorite soaps of all time are long gone now.Love of Life with Van, Bruce, Meg. Love Is A Many Splendid Thing with Iris and Laura and Guiding Light with the Bauer family.I also really liked As The World Turns and Search For Tomorrow too.
Guiding Light was one of the best soaps to watch in the 70s and 80s.Kelly and Morgan and the Reardons.
Santa Barbara was also a great soap!I could go on and on!
Why are these wonderful shows and on going stories that make you feel as though they are apart of your own family being replaced with basically filler programming?
Remember when the early talk shows would come on after the soaps, like Mike Douglas and Phil Donahue? They would sometimes even do soap day or week and have cast members from the soaps come on and talk.
It makes think of doing laundry/ironing/getting the clothes off the line (during the commercials) and folding them, smelling dinner cooking or very hot or very cold days when I remember watching soaps.
