During the mid-50s….Not far from Newton,Kansas... there was a lake called the Yentruoc….My older sister would take me along with her and her friends to the Yentruoc. The fun thing for me was all the wooden floating docks connected by cable; which I had fun jumping off of. My sister said that the name was backwards for Courtney. The Yentruoc was South and East of Newton. It was almost like a resort; it had a sand beach, a place to buy refreshments and a place to dance, which included a jukebox….
Note: On a Harvey County, Kansas genealogy web site, it listed Courtney Davis; an independent oil and gas operator, who came to Wichita, Kansas in the 1920s.Courtney developedthe Yentruoc Lodge in Southeast Harvey County; where he resided in the 1930s.The lake area was opened as a public recreation spot in the early 1940s.
