I wonder how much it cost to ride city buses and streetcars in the 1940s and 50s; Do you remember using tokens? Did you give the driver a $1.00 and he gave you that much value in tokens?
I think that it would have been fun riding streetcars in the neighborhoods.
The first time that I remember taking a city bus was in the 60s and I have no idea what it cost to ride a bus, it could have been ten cents or a quarter. I didn't care back then, but I want to know now.All I cared about then was getting downtown after school and meeting Mom, who worked at the Globe, in downtown Scranton.
Mom told a story about when one time she and my older sister were coming home on a bus. My sister must have been only two or so. She was dress in a pretty pink dress that her grandma had made for her. On that day long, my sister wanted some cookies and Mom said no. The cookies were for after supper. Well that didn't go down too well with my sister. She started saying damm, damm, damm and wouldn't stop. Mom was so embarrass, that she got off at the next stop, as everyone on the bus was looking at them. Mom said it was a long walk home. You see Mom and dad didn't cuss, so my sister must picked up the naughty word from her uncles.
Do you have any funny memories of riding a streetcar or bus when you were young.
